The Magic of AWS

There’s just something magical about cloud computing these days. Amazon has managed to make highly configurable and reliable servers such a cheap commodity that they can give them away for free and still make money. In the past few months I’ve instantiated new computers on the cloud for both simple one-off experiments and always on services using AWS. In minutes I can select the exact hardware/OS configuration I want and have the computer up and running on the cloud. There’s been a case where I instantiated an image simply because I wanted to see if a program would compile/run on a particular machine. It’s crazy to me that this has become the new normal and that I’m only playing around at the tip of the iceberg that is AWS. I can definitely see a cloud based project on my horizon.
